Assumptions and tax limitations
Constant 2026 prices and base-year tax schedules; fixed FX snapshot. This is a planning scenario, not a forecast.
Published figures and linked pages are not independent verification. Some evidence is contextual and assumptions remain unverified.
This household is priced as married from the start; no wedding-date transition is modelled.
- The arithmetic examples do not certify every tax table, filing status or eligibility rule. Calculations reuse base-year schedules over the whole horizon.
- The federal Child Tax Credit (2,200 per child under 17, phased out above 400,000 joint or 200,000 other income) is taken off federal income tax, assuming every child under 17 is a qualifying child with a Social Security number. Only the non-refundable part is modelled; the refundable additional credit and the 500 credit for other dependants are not.
- State taxable income is reduced by the state standard deduction for this filing status, and state and city brackets are the single or joint tables as published for 2026 (California and New Jersey on their latest published tables). Personal and dependent exemptions, Wisconsin’s sliding-scale deduction, state disability and family-leave payroll premiums outside California, and municipal earnings taxes not in the tables are not modelled. California SDI assumes covered California employment.
- New-immigrant credit points are annual residence-year averages; partial tax years and eligibility interruptions are not modelled. The single-earner role remains the father.
- The 2026 aliyah tax break is not applied because no qualifying arrival is recorded. Ordinary new-immigrant credit assumptions remain. A recorded arrival enables the conditional model; it does not establish entitlement.

Updated model. How much more kosher groceries cost than the same basket unkoshered. Ours is an estimate: about 35% more on meat, fish, eggs and dairy, which are a third of the grocery bill (BLS 2024), so about 11.5% overall.
Sets rent on both sides, and purchase price in Jerusalem, at 1x the city's typical price. Modeled from limited data, not a measurement of actual listings.
Updated model.
Updated model. A child counts as a mobile line from this age, in both cities; younger children add nothing. 11 is our assumption: about half of children have their own phone by then in US and UK surveys.
From this age, groceries, shared per-person costs and mobile lines stop counting each child in both cities. 18 is an adjustable assumption. Housing, education, benefits and milestones keep their own rules; your explicit cost edits still apply.
No child under 3 right now, so this changes nothing until one arrives.
Changes selected US health and French self-employed cost lines only. Other countries are unaffected; this is not a complete employment-tax comparison.
Switches on the new-oleh credit points (Section 35), makes the 2026 aliyah tax break available above, and prices the reduced oleh purchase tax if you buy. Not modeled: Section 14's 10-year exemption on income produced outside Israel, since this household is priced on an Israeli salary.
Worth little here: credit points already cancel most Israeli income tax for a family with children. It matters most for high earners and small households.
Under the original model (v1) a saved arrival month is inactive.
Nothing edited yet — these are the model's own numbers.
These are averages, not quotes. Type your real annual numbers and everything above updates. Every row says what it contains; open one to see the individual lines and edit them. This is this year's basket, the only year whose lines can be listed; anything you change here applies to every year of the projection.

Each of these is charged once, in the year it happens, which is why it shows as a spike on the chart and as a fraction of itself in the averages. The prices below are the cost of the event itself, before your share of it. They are averages for a mainstream celebration in each place, not quotes, and they are fixed on both sides so that the two columns stay comparable.
Bar / Bat Mitzvah
Every child, boys and girls at different ages, boys at 13, girls at 12.
Brit milah
Every boy, at age 0.
Wedding (paying half)
Every child, at age 23. You are charged 50% of that, because the cost is split between the two families.
What a Jewish burial costs
This is not in the chart, not in the averages and not in any total on this page. Nobody knows which year it falls in, and this model gives the adults no age, so putting it in a year would be an invention. It sits here instead: one adult, buried once, priced in both places.
Burial, one adult
Service, plot, interment and stone. Offsets are modelling assumptions, not confirmation of coverage or entitlement; imported cities may use a 75% anchor assumption.
New York: $20,000 net. Jerusalem: $3,000 net.
Keep in mind: aliyah and the move itself are a one-time cost (flights, shipping a home, first-month setup) that sits on top of these annual figures.
