Privacy policy

1. Who operates Jewcalc

Jewcalc is a meirlabs project. The operators of Jewcalc are responsible for the information handling described here. For privacy questions or requests, contact admin@meirlabs.com.

This policy covers Jewcalc’s website, tools and advertiser dashboard. It does not cover third-party websites you visit through links or sponsored placements. Our Terms of use explain why the site’s estimates are not financial advice and may be inaccurate.

2. Planning inputs and saved scenarios

The tools use information you choose to enter, such as cities, household size, children’s ages, housing and education choices, costs, income or job offers, and tax or moving assumptions. Some choices may reveal personal circumstances, including religious observance. You can use example values or defaults instead; omitting optional information can make a result less relevant to you. There is no legal obligation to provide optional planning information.

Calculations generally run in your browser. Browser local storage keeps your saved scenario and whether you accepted the terms, while session storage keeps progress and temporary planning state. These stores are not private accounts: someone with access to the same browser profile may be able to see the saved information.

Scenario values may also be encoded in page URLs. Shared links and generated preview images can send those values to our servers, and URL information can appear in browser history and hosting logs. Our analytics receive the page path without the scenario parameter, never the scenario itself. Anyone who receives a scenario link can read or reconstruct the values it contains. Do not treat an encoded link as encrypted or confidential.

3. Technical information and analytics

Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes requests to serve and secure the site. Request information can include IP addresses, page URLs, browser and device information, referrers, timestamps and error or security logs.

When configured, we use PostHog for product analytics, including page views, interactions with tools and sponsor interactions. Before anything is sent, the scenario is removed from every page URL and referrer, and session recording is off. Analytics receive the page path, device and browser information, identifiers, approximate location and bounded event properties such as the cities compared, the display currency, and which control changed and its new setting. The setting is never sent for religious observance or the kosher food premium. We do not describe this information as anonymous merely because you have not signed in.

PostHog can use cookies and browser storage to recognize visits. Clearing or blocking site storage can affect both analytics and saved planning state. The public tools do not require a Jewcalc account, and we do not use administrator email addresses to identify visitors in our analytics implementation.

4. Sponsor interactions

We record when a sponsor card is viewed or its button is selected, along with the advertiser, page placement, date and whether the campaign is a demo. These records support shared daily performance totals. Sponsor selection uses the topic and placement you are viewing, not your income, household details or religious preferences.

To limit abuse and repeated event submissions, the service also uses short-lived event identifiers and hashed network-address information. Raw IP addresses are not stored in the sponsorship reporting tables; hosting and other infrastructure may separately process request IP addresses.

Opening an advertiser’s website connects you to that provider. Information you submit there is governed by its privacy policy. We do not send your calculator inputs to advertisers as part of a sponsor-click record or sell your planning inputs to sponsors.

5. Administrator accounts and contact

The private advertiser dashboard uses Supabase to authenticate approved administrators and store campaigns and reporting. Supabase processes administrator account details, authentication credentials and session information. Session tokens are stored in the administrator’s browser to maintain sign-in. Campaign details entered by administrators can become public when an advertisement is active.

If you contact us, we receive the contact details, message and other information you provide. We use them to respond and manage the request. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.

6. Why we use information and who receives it

We use information to run the tools, remember your choices, deliver shared results, authenticate administrators, measure and improve the service, report on sponsorships, prevent abuse, respond to requests and meet applicable legal obligations.

Service providers supporting those purposes include Vercel for hosting, Supabase for authentication and sponsorship storage, and PostHog for analytics when enabled. Information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States and Europe. Access is limited to the people and providers who need it for these purposes. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to protect legal rights or the security of the service.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you request, legitimate interests in operating and protecting it, compliance with legal obligations, or consent where consent is required. This policy is a notice about our practices; it does not itself replace any consent required by law.

7. Retention and security

Browser-saved scenarios remain until replaced or cleared; session data generally lasts for the browser session, subject to your browser’s restore settings. Administrator sessions remain until signed out, cleared, expired or revoked. We retain account and contact information as needed for its purpose and any applicable legal requirements. Hosting and analytics records are subject to the relevant service configuration and retention practices.

Sponsorship retry identifiers older than seven days and anti-abuse hash buckets older than one day are eligible for automatic cleanup when the reporting service next receives an event. Daily campaign totals are retained for historical reporting and can remain after an advertiser is deleted.

We use access restrictions and other safeguards appropriate to the service, but no internet service or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Avoid submitting information you do not need to share.

8. Your choices and privacy requests

You can clear Jewcalc’s cookies and site data through your browser settings, use example scenarios instead of personal inputs, avoid sharing scenario links, and sign out of the advertiser dashboard. Clearing browser storage does not erase copies of shared links or information already received by service providers. Blocking storage may prevent saved scenarios or administrator sign-in from working correctly.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access or correct personal information and to request deletion, restriction, portability or objection to processing. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. You may also contact the privacy regulator responsible for your jurisdiction.

Send requests to admin@meirlabs.com. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity and locate the relevant records. Some technical or aggregate records cannot be linked back to a particular person. We will explain any legal or practical limits on fulfilling a request.

9. Children and updates

Jewcalc is intended for adults planning household decisions. Children’s ages can be used as planning inputs; names or other identifying details about children are not needed. If you believe a child has provided personal information directly, contact us so we can review it.

We may update this policy as the service or its information handling changes. The date above identifies the current version. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent where applicable law requires it.
